I have been the librarian at Wolcott since August of 2008. Prior to that, I was a middle school librarian at Har-Bur Middle School (grades 5-8) in Burlington, CT. When I first moved to CT, I was a substitute teacher in West Hartford Public Schools and even subbed at Wolcott. I had moved to Connecticut from Virginia where I attended college.
I went to Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. I graduated from ODU with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (Teacher Preparation, Pre-K-6), Master of Science in Elementary Education, and Library Science Graduate Coursework in School Librarianship.
Before moving to Virginia for college, I had lived in the same town (in the same house) in Beaufort, South Carolina. It is a beautiful, historic coastal town with great views, seafood, and beaches. Many people ask why I moved to Connecticut. That is because I met my husband Mark when I was in school in Virginia. He was from Connecticut so I agreed to move up with him when he moved back after ending his service for the United States Navy.
When I was a kid, I always wanted to see other parts of the country and world, so moving to Connecticut was a new and exciting adventure that would allow me to see another part of the country. I love to travel and living in Connecticut has allowed me to travel to some of my favorite places: England, Quebec City, Luxembourg, Germany, and The Netherlands--plus too many amazing places to list located around CT! Besides travel, I enjoy reading, food (preparing and enjoying!), and hiking.
Don’t ask me to name a favorite book because I love so many, but Harry Potter is my all-time favorite series.
